María Maya is a seasoned Registered Nurse and Clinical Research Specialist with over 30 years of experience in Healthcare Education and Health programs implementation.

She currently serves as Regulatory Compliance Director at Emerson Clinical Research Institute, where she leads initiatives in trial oversight, regulatory documentation, and quality assurance.

Her expertise spans clinical trial management across sites in Washington D.C., Virginia, and New Jersey, with a strong command of GCP/ICH guidelines, site monitoring, informed consent oversight, and continuous quality improvement. Maria has contributed to over 34 research studies and developed performance metrics and KPIs to optimize outcomes and streamline processes.

She has conducted research in diverse therapeutic areas, including Women’s Health, Infectious Diseases, Ophthalmology, Endocrinology, Immunology (Vaccines), Neurology, Pain Medicine, Mental Health, and cardiovascular diseases.

Maria’s career also includes achievements in international health systems, including ISO 9001 certification for 21 healthcare institutions in Colombia and the development of a nationally recognized model of excellence for the Mexican Consulate’s Ventanilla de Salud (VDS) in Washington D.C., during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She holds dual nursing degrees from Universidad del Valle (Colombia) and The University of the State of New York, along with a Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering and a specialization in Health Services Management. She is also a certified peer leader in Chronic Disease and Diabetes Self-Management Programs; Her career reflects a deep commitment to patient safety, regulatory excellence, and Community Health advancement.
