Walter Faggett

Retired U.S. Army Colonel, physician, and community health advocate advancing equity through research, teaching, and clinical leadership at ECRI.

Walter Faggett, M.D. is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, public policy expert, and board-certified primary care physician with over 50 years of service in medicine. His clinical expertise spans family medicine, pediatrics, and psychiatry, with a distinguished career as a practitioner, educator, and clinical investigator.

Dr. Faggett currently serves as Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Howard University College of Medicine and is Medical Director and Principal Investigator at Emerson Community Clinic.

He has led and contributed to numerous clinical trials, particularly in underserved communities, addressing conditions from COVID-19 and hypertension to mental health and chronic diseases. A long-standing community health advocate, Dr. Faggett holds leadership roles with the Ward 8 Health Council, the Black Health Trust, and the People’s UCC Church in Washington, D.C. His military and civilian leadership includes serving as Director of the Army Physician Assistant Program and Chief Medical Officer for the D.C. Department of Health.

Dr. Faggett earned his M.D. from the University of Michigan and completed residency and fellowship training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and George Washington University. He continues to serve with dedication, advancing health equity through research, teaching, and service.
